Lots and lots of films featuring and starring canines of all breeds and temperaments, that’s what we want and that’s what we’ll get.
The reason for all of the dogged cinema is Hallmark Channel’s special exclusive presentation of the 2012 American Humane Association’s Hero Dog Awards on Thursday, November 8 (8 p.m. ET/PT, 7C). But before and after that, it’s wall-to-wall dog-friendly films.
On Thursday, November 8, the celebration gets started at 6 p.m. with “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale,” which stars the Richard Gere and Joan Allen in the unforgettable story of one Akita’s magical loyalty to his master.
Hachi is followed at 8 p.m. by the World Premiere of “Hero Dog Awards.” The awards, the second annual presentation, honors four-legged heroes for their service to mankind, paying tribute in categories including Service Dogs, Military Dogs, Guide Dogs, Emerging Hero Dogs, Therapy Dogs, Law Enforcement/Arson Dogs, Search and Rescue Dogs, and Hearing Dogs.
The evening wraps at 10 p.m. with a showing of “A Dog Named Christmas,” from the 2009 Hallmark Hall of Fame Collection. It features Bruce Greenwood in the sensitive tale of a developmentally challenged young man (Noel Fisher) who works to convince his rural community to participate in a local shelter’s inaugural “Adopt a Dog For Christmas” program.
You’ll just have to trust us that there won’t be a dry eye in your house by the conclusion of this one. Put it all together and it’s clear that at Hallmark Channel, they believe in giving everyone a new leash on life.

The winner of the 2012 Hero Dog Award is Gabe. The military dog began his service to the United States of America in 2006 and has had an impact not only on the life of Charles Shuck, his handler, but American soldiers around the world.
While deployed to Iraq, he completed over 210 combat missions with 26 finds of explosives and weapons. When Gabe is not leading a combat mission he frequently visited wounded troops in Army hospitals and he visited school children in elementary schools.
Gabe represents the United States War Dog Association, Inc., a nonprofit organization of former and current U.S. Military Dog handlers and members committed to promoting the long history of the Military Service Dogs, establishing permanent War Dog Memorials, and educating the public about the invaluable service of these dogs to our country.

Hi, I’m Vicki– the founder of the Vicki & Hachi movement.
I help women on their journey back to themselves and into their one big, visible, authentic life. I do this through coaching, courses, and a flourishing community built around The Hachi Spirit (more on that later).
I believe that your life is your message and that you are meant to leave a one-of-a-kind legacy in this big, colorful world.
Plus, we’ve experienced that our loyal, canine companions possess innate wisdom and are often our best teachers.
